My 28th...

hello people of planet earth I finally can maybe, possibly...start working more frequently on mi blog. Why and how do you ask?

Well maybe you're not asking but imma tell you anyways. I finally brought myself a laptop. Yea me! So pretty much no excuses now...unless of course I don't know what to write about. Yikes!

So let's start off where I left off...I can't remember where I left on so I'm going to start with the events of my birthday! So last month I turned 28 years old and I really didn't know what to do to celebrate. Well I did know what I wanted to do but that wasn't in the plans. I wanted a full day spa treatment. Meanwhile Mr. P keeps asking me "what do you want for your birthday?" You would think throwing around hints like "I really could use a massage" or "I can't wait to set up a spa date for myself" well have helped but it didn't.

Ultimately I decided that I would just go to a bar I hadn't been to. That way people could come and drink, eat, talk, hang out, and eventually roll out. We went to BreadSoda in DC. I had never heard of the place and I probably wouldn't have ever found it for Google. ---- I seriously couldn't live without Google.

BreadSoda is located in Glover Park and it's a little ways out, but so worth it. At first I had a hard time finding the place and my saving grace was that there was a little deli type sign on the sidewalk that had the bar's name. The place was pretty spacious for a DC bar which I appreciated it. We even had a whole side table to ourselves. Bottom line the place was really great. Nice atmosphere, clean, fun and I would definitely be going back.

So if anyone wants to check out if your in the DC area check their website www.breadsoda.com

But I really wanted to share some of the special treats I received on that day. I am a very simple girl. I love cards and flowers. I know there not great gifts but I love em.

This is the bouquet of flowers I received at work. Lastly no birthday is complete without a cake and teddy. The teddy is from Mr. P. Thank you everyone for making my 28th a great one!

Fears

We all have them:spiders, snakes, flying, darkness, failure, public speaking, loud noises, heights. Sometimes these little 'prohibiters' cause us to miss out on certain life experiences. For me, heights happens to be an absolutely terrifying fear of mine. I literally can not stand on the edge of anything higher than 5 feet, without having some heavy breathing, and a couple of skipped heart beats.

Well this past weekend, Mr. P and me decided to go to Six Flags. For those of you who don't know what a Six Flags is, it's a like a carnival but 100x bigger. Bigger rides, lots more 'carnival' games, longer lines, more expensive, roller coasters, and a massive pool . Basically it's a theme park.

I have not been to Six Flags in over a decade and anytime I have ever been, I would get on selected rides. What some of you may call 'the kiddie rides' - hey! I did say I was petrified of rides, didn't I?! I was perfectly content watching all my friends get on rides together while I waited for them to get off. I was happy enjoying time spent with my friends OFF the rides. Yes, very rarely would I get on a major roller coaster, and the rare times that I did is because a certain person wouldn't have a partner. I would ride that whole thing with my eyes closed.

However, since I knew that in this visit only me and Mr. P would be going, I would have to go on every single ride. I had to mentally prepare myself for this. Mind you I was going with the ultimate thrill seeker, not a good combo.

We started off with rides that I had already been, no surprises and still rode those with my eyes closed. But then, the ultimate, biggest ride in the entire park, The Superman - Ride of Steel.

Info on The Superman.

Thrill Scale (0=Wimpy!, 10=Yikes!): 8.5 Extreme height, acceleration, and speed
Highest point (feet): 200
Max. speed (mph): 75

We had gone to the park on a Sunday mid-day, so there were partically no lines. Great! I can't back out now. Of course, we have to ride the back of every ride because apparently it's a little more bumpy. Mr. P gets in, then I get in. For once I hoped that the "seat belt" wouldn't buckle, no luck, it seemed perfectly safe and bucketed just fine, crap!

The announcer is talking about something, but I can't seem to make anything out because all I'm thinking is please don't cry, please don't cry and Mr. P saying "this ride is scary" over and over and over like a broken record. I want to get off soooooo bad, but I know that I can't. I mean I can, but I can't. Now the cars start moving, now I really can't get off. Oh crap! Oh crap!

Hearing the click of the cars going up was not settling at all. I really don't want to do this anymore. I'm looking for an exit, really believing that somehow I can get off....I can't get off. Being afraid of heights and being 200 ft up in the air, yea I was feeling quite...not lovely. However, the view couldn't be anymore glorious. Yet, that could not settle my nerves.

I can see that we are approaching the downhill part. I can hear some of the cars starting their decline, along with the screams. I close my eyes, take a deep breath.

My mind is quite and blank, for once.

Now I feel the wind smacking my face, open my eyes... oh God why did I open my eyes!!!!
We're so high and we're going down so fast. I feel my heart in my chest. I think I might throw up. No, no, no, no! Now, a sharp turn. More ups and downs. Another sharp turn. More curves.

Somewhere in between all of this, I actually start to laugh. I don't know if it was out of fear or because I honestly started to enjoy the ride. It was exhilarating;having my heart beat so fast, being scare and fasciated all at the same time. Next thing you know, it's all done. Sudden stop and watching the next set of cars set off to their minute of thrill. I looked at Mr. P and smile. I made it, all of me.

After that I was able to ride every single roller coaster in that place, with some bit of hesitation and excitement. But able to make it through all of them, laughing like a mad women through it all. I walked away with some extreme naseous, but I made it. I conquered a fear.

I'm still afraid of heights...and roller coasters, but at least now I won't let it overpower me so much that it prevents me from enjoying some of what life has to offer.

Next, skydiving!

Auntie & Nieces Day

Recently I had my first monthly auntie & nieces day. What's that u ask...well it was "politely" brought to my attention that I don't spend enough time with my niece, by my niece. And she's right. You see if I'm not at my boyfriends, I'm in class, studying, working, working out, running errands basically doing a bunch of things other than spending time with them. So together we came up with auntie & nieces day. One day out of the month i spend with them doing whatever is fun for them and at the same time i'm having quality time with them.

The day finally came, so quickly that I really didn't have too much planned. Plus it started to rain so we couldn't be outside much. After googling for some ideas I finally decided to take em to the Kid Museum, Launch Zone by the National Harbor in Maryland. This area is rather new. About 5 or so years ago it was nothing but land and dirt. Disney brought the land and now its covered in hotels, chic stores and apartments, nice restaurants all facing the harbour. Its a really nice place to say the least. So we head off to the kids museum and it turns out them were doing some arts & crafts for the New Chinese Year. The girls had the opportunity to make a bunch of things.

Then we headed over to Ketchup. This is a restaurant that I've been wanting to eat at for a while but haven't gotten the opportunity. So we sit and enjoyed quite a delicious brunch. The pictures speak for themselves. The prices were reasonably priced. Great service! Cool atmosphere.

I had the cesar salad. Delicious!

The girls had pancakes and meats. I thought it was so
cute that it was placed on adult plates.

And of course no day can be complete without dessert or something sweet. I wanted to eat dessert but the girls had other plans. So we aheaded to the Peeps store and we all got to make a bag full of candy we picked out. Pretty awesome.

So for it being the first auntie and nieces day, i think it was a success.

My girls.

Heart's Day

In honor of Valentine's Day, I would like to share with you my most romantic day. Oddly enough it didn't include an expensive dinner or trip, a lavish piece of jewelry or even the sweetest words spoken.
One day me and Mr.P were sitting around the house thinking about what to do, we finally decide let's just get in the car and go into the city. That's one of the advantages of living in the DMV area. If you want city, you have the city, if you want country, you got it and if you want suburbia, then we have that too.

So anyways we decided that we would go into the city and find something to do. After driving around and checking out some of the local spots and hangouts we still couldn't decide what to do, but we started to get hungry. If I remember correctly we really didn't have that much money so we knew we couldn't get something too pricey (or mayber we wanted to save money for booze, I really can't remember) so we ultimately decided to get some Subway. We were both really into eating Subway subs at that point, I loved tuna and he loved meatball or steak & cheese subs. So we got two foot long subs, mine tuna, his meatball, so that we could split it. Cause he did like tuna and I had never tried the meatball.

Now we didn't want to sit at the Subway and eat, we wanted to eat somewhere, just not there. Nothing against subway, cause that one is really nice, but it was a nice, dc night and I really wanted to be outside. So we're driving and ultimately we end up at the Mall (Smithsonian). This place is undeniable one of our favorites spots in all of DC. No explanation needed. So I say freak it lets just find a nice spot to sit and eat, which around there it's not that hard. Imagine us walking around with two foot long subs! We end up sitting on a bench right next to one of my favorite museaums, the Freer Gallery of Art.

Then all of a sudden we both hear a loud, boom!!! We look around thinking what is going on? Shortly we see a glittering, colorful, rays of 'fire' coming down. For some reason or another there were fireworks. I love fireworks! Till this day I don't know why there were fireworks.

So we sat back in one our favorite spots, eating subs, watching fireworks and talking about everything we wanted to do/accomplish in our lives. Totally unplanned, but most romantic.

It's Icy Outside

So the latest eastern coast winter storm hit us with a grand slap to the face! I almost slipped half a dozen times. The worst part of it all was that I had to go to work...which I didn't mind, I just really don't like driving in bad weather. Also it didn't help that I was leaving the house I had my purse, lunch and recyclables. The recyclables didn't make it that day...The whole entire ground was covered in ice! And I forgotten my "rubbers" ...boats at my place. Walking around in icy conditions and Adidas don't mix very well.

So as I'm leaving my home away from home, I am confronted my the downhill driveway. I honestly considered turning my butt back around but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Thank goodness I had a fence to hold onto or else it was gonna be a butt slide all the way down. After 30 minutes of taking the ice off my car (I must admit I was taking my sweet time) I finally made it into my car. Surprising the commute wasn't that bad once I got onto the main roads and by the end of the day I was able to safety walk on the ground.

Nothing like winter weather...preparing for the unexpected.

Thanksgiving

This is the time of the year that most people start to think about what they are grateful/thankful for. After all one of the main principals of this holiday (other than the turkey!) is to ask yourself, hey what am I thankful for? What do I have thanks to give for?

My family has a small tradition that we do every year, along with our Thanksgivings prayer, each of us go around the table and say what we're thankful for. For the past couple of years, a few days before the day, I've actually had to thoroughly think about it instead of just knowing. Last year, I can't even remember what I was thankful for, honestly I almost said "nothing". Or was it the year before last? Either way, it was one of those years and it was...a really crappy one. Of course, I managed to think of something for that year.

For this year again I really am thinking it through, there is one obvious "thankful" reason, but I seriously doubt that I will say it in front of my family because it's really corny! Other than that I really can't think of many things I'm thankful for...I don't mean to sound ungrateful...life in general this past year has changed soooo fast, not just for myself but my family as well. Some things for the best, others for the worst and some things we have yet to know. It makes me question things.

When things are not good, most of us are not grateful. When things are good, we tend not to be so grateful either. I think that's one of our problems as a society. We think that we work hard everyday, we deserve all these things, so why should we even be grateful. Not realizing that there are people who have significantly less that we do, who work 10x harder than we do and yet they may not even have a bite of food to eat at night. And when things are down for us, we surely have nothing to be thankful for. We can think of ALL the problems we ever had in life and somehow connect them all together and come to the conclusion, this is why my life is so terrible. Then way later down the line, we recall the depressive state of mind that we were in and think "God, why did I make such a big deal out of that?" Are we just ungrateful as a society? Do we not know how to truly value our life? Not things but our life?

The people in our lives, the things we do have in our life. I'm not just talking about materialistic things, I'm talking about having things like water, clean water. Not having to wake up to gunfire everyday, well depending where you live. Some people have lost loved ones and just lost in general this year, yet they can find a reason to be thankful. So not why us, when you put things into perceptive, why don't some of us have at least one reason to be thankful.

I guess...what I'm thankful for is being given other chance to find and keep (knock on wood) love and to have someone sincerely loves me back. I'm grateful for my family, even though we a little torn apart, but they're still alive. Thankful for my life, even though I don't have an ultra glamorous life, with fancy cars, nice clothes, no ability to take wonderful cross country trips, but I am alive. I do have a home (two of them, not a house, a home), a family, food...

like the Rihanna & TI song says...
"what you need to do is thankful for the life that you got...stop lookin at what you ain't got and start being thankful for you do got"

So maybe when I think about it, I do have a lot of things to be grateful for, things that I truly value, even though I may not show it very well. Now this of course is not some generalzation, just some of us. I am also learning to have a deeper appreciation for life.

Now it's your turn...

Losing It...

So since this is my first official blog I’ve decided to call the following “losing it”. Ha! (Haven’t gotten to say that in a long time) If you don’t get it you don’t get it.

I have many reasons for starting a blog mainly b/c I’m trying to stay hip to the times…just kidding. That would be really dorky of me if I said that. Honestly the main reason will not be disclosed, the reason that will be disclosed is that I want to express and opinionate. You’ll agree or disagree with me, both of which I’m pretty sure I’ll appreciate. If I don’t, I’ll just delete your comment! Lol! I guess I’ll share the world from my point of view.

There will be a lot of random things/comments/posts on here, but that’s how I am, a little bit of everything.

I will tell you, if you love food, you’re in the right place. Cause I LOVE food!!!! Even though I personally have a love/hate type of relationship with food, I will try my best to blog about places I go to eat, so you can go out and eat!

So till later, check me out!
